Insomnia’s bitch

It’s been a productive late night anyways, as I’ve putted quietly around the kitchen and played with my new website some. Incidentals now has a home and will be developing a website as we develop a cohesive product line.

Meanwhile, I made a batch of manly scented deodorant and lotion, some rose clay facial soaps, and contemplated shaving my legs but that was too depressing.

I did, however, remember that I promised to put up my recipe for toner. So here it is:

Perstephanie’s toner

1 cup lavender water

1/3 cup witch hazel

1 tsp ascorbic acid (or  approximately one ground up 500mg vitamin c tablet)

To get lavender water, steep 2 Tbsp lavender buds in 1 cup boiling water until comes to room temperature then strain. Take 2/3 c remaining water and add ascorbic acid and witch hazel, store in jar with good lid. Swab face with this solution as desired to remove excess dirt and pollutants.

Other herbs may be used instead of lavender. Calendula, comfrey, and others have healing or soothing properties.

Soap, bath and beauty, jams and jellies, and unique upcycled gifts. That's what I make and talk about here. A lot.

    1. You could, I suppose, try a combination of water, rubbing alcohol, and an oil that’s considered cleansing and drying like hazelnut or castor oil, but hazelnut has its own distinctive odor and there are concerns about the way castor oil is made that concern some people. It’s an especially thick oil that might not emulse well with the other ingredients by just shaking the bottle.

  1. I think witch hazel has the least odor when dry and evaporated, and is the easiest to use. Also, you’re using a very small amount in this scenario. Very small. I’m not sure lingering odor should be a concern.
